Chaminade University: Chaminade is a private Marianist university, which is a federally-designated Native Hawaiian serving institution. Chaminade has created research facilities with dedicated support and advanced instrumentation. Major research interests include: inflammation, mast cells, fetal membranes in preterm birth. Hawaii Pacific University: HPU is the largest private university in the state, with a diverse international student population. With very strong ties to marine science, natural product development from marine sources is a major focus. Other research interests include: neuropharmacology and cancer biology. Kapi’olani Community College: KCC is unique among the community colleges in the UH system in having a monoclonal antibody development facility, which serves as an important resource for Hawaii, but also a training ground for student research. University of Hawai’i at Hilo: UHH was founded as the Hawaii Vocational School in 1941, later organizing under its present name as a state university in 1970. UH Hilo is accredited by WASC. Associated learning centers include the UH Hilo Science and Technology Park, Pacific Aquaculture & Coastal Resources Center, and the Waiakea Research Station. The Waiakea Research Station operated by UH Hilo, houses 13 laboratories totaling 6,100 sq. ft. and a 1,100 sq. ft. instrumentation laboratory. University of Hawaii Hilo Campus Coordinator
University of Hawaii Maui College: UH Maui College has a new, state-of-the-art sciences center, Ike Lea, which will provide the foundation for the development of research programs for students from Maui county (Maui, Molokai and Lanai).
