PATHway to Biomedical Careers

The PATHway to Biomedical Careers Activity organizes and oversees student research activities at the community college and PUI partner institutions in conjunction with local campus coordinators. The primary focus is the early introduction of community college and undergraduate students to active, hands-on participation in actual biomedical research. PATHway also works closely with the campus coordinators on development of the laboratory experience (lab safety; ethics; presentation; scientific writing) and career consultation. The goal is to establish and implement a research and education network with full integration of resources and cooperation among all of the participating institutions.

The INBRE Student Research Experience (SRE) Program operates under the broader PATHway to Biomedical Careers Activity and provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to engage in mentored biomedical research at partnering institutions. This rigorous program emphasizes experiential learning through full-time research placements, structured professional development workshops, and formal opportunities to present research findings at scientific symposia. The SRE is designed to foster scientific inquiry, enhance technical proficiency, and support students in their progression toward biomedical careers or advanced academic study. Each partner institute has a designated INBRE Campus Coordinator, who is responsible for overseeing the program activities at each of our partner campuses.
