The use of ozone and ultrasound to degrade glyphosate and kill pathogens in water

Research Summary: The Platz Laboratory studies the mechanisms of chemical reactions: the precise sequence of bond breaking and making that converts reactants into short-lived intermediates that form stable products. The reactions are often initiated by light or oxidants. The motivations range from pure curiosity inspired research with no obvious, immediate application to research relevant to improved public health. In the latter category the Platz Laboratory is developing new advanced oxidation processes to degrade herbicides and pesticides in wastewater streams to smaller, more benign molecules, and to eradicate pathogens in catchment water used for drinking and washing.
